Kato Nishiyama Laboratory, Graduate School of Information Sciences, Tohoku University

Assistant Professor Hiroki Nishiyama was promoted to Associate Professor effective May 1st, 2012. His promotion broke the record for associate professor at the youngest age in recent years.

In Paris, France, Jiajia Liu (D3) and Yuichi Kawamoto (M2) made a presentation at IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC 2012) that was held from April 1 to 4 2012. Liu's title was "Performance Modeling for Two-hop Relay with Erasure Coding in MANETs" and Kawamoto's title was "Assessing Packet Delivery Delay in Multi-Layered Satellite Networks." Professor Nei Kato, Assistant Professor Hiroki Nishiyama, and Jiajia Liu received the Best Paper Award, Kawamoto received the Student Travel Grant at this conference.

In Orkand, USA, Jiajia Liu (D3) made a presentation at The 31st Annual IEEE International Conference on Computer Communications (IEEE INFOCOM 2012) that was held from March 25 to 30 2012. Titles were "Exact Throughput Capacity under Power Control in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks" and "Multicast Capacity, Delay and Delay Jitter in Intermittently Connected Mobile Networks".

At Sendai City Gymnasium, commencement ceremony of Tohoku University was held on Mar. 27, 2012. Ahmed Abdulla was awarded Dean's Award of Graduate School of Information Sciences, Tohoku University.

Assistant Prof. Nishiyama won approval for research results about "WINDS搭載ATM交換機を利用したTCP通信の基礎実験", and he received the Academic Encouraging Award The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE) General Conference 2011 (Mar. 21th, 2012).
